Why does an HDMI cable have all those pins when antenna cables do away with two?

HDMI does a lot more than a simple antenna for a receiver, most of which only have one conductor, not two.

HDMI is a two-way connection that handles digital video and audio at very high data rates and needs lots of pins in it’s connectors. I don’t know what they all do, but it takes more than one or two…

      • HDMI cables will definitely increase the quality of pictures. Any type of HDMI cable can be used.
      • HDMI cables have 19 pins, with 12 used as shielded differential twisted pairs. This design provides the excellent signal integrity needed for the many gigabits per second of video transmission used in the HDMI link.
      • As this link speed increases with 4K and 4K High Dynamic Range content, the quality of these cables becomes more critical. A cable that works perfectly at 1080p HD resolution may fail completely when 3D or 4K is used. And even when the image looks perfect, the design of HDMI is such that even many errors per frame are difficult to see, because each pixel, or individual dot, is made up of signal sent over three separate pairs within the HDMI cable — sent either as separate Red, Green, and Blue, or as Y, Cb and Cr.
      • If one or two bits are wrong in the transmission, the error is very difficult to see, because the other two signals are likely correct and they will mostly compensate for the error and conceal it. Even though most people say that all HDMI cables are alike as long as you see an image, this is not correct because a lower-quality cable may experience a huge number of errors per second which go unnoticed by most people.
