I won’t say YES or NO, I would let you answer this question based on my journey at Google. You decide and let me know if you consider Google as a good place to work or not.
I worked at Google Mountain View office for 5 months on a cloud technology implementation project. At the very first moment when I got out of the cab in front of Google office, I saw a glimpse of a completely new world, there were of statues of Android, donuts, Google Pixel and many more.
- Respect: Before I mention fancy perks of Google, I would like to mention that supervisors are very respectful to juniors in general. There are always exceptions but Google teaches its employees to be humble and down to earth.
- Perfect Work-Life Balance: As a Consultant, I am used to working for 10-12 hours per day. But I was surprised to see that most of the Google employees work for 8-9 hours and spend the rest of the time in other activities. Even inside Google campus, they have multiple facilities like Yoga class, massage machine, gym instructors and many other. Also, I have seen cases where the Manager at Google forced his team members to take time-off because some of them had not taken time-off for the last few months.
- No Dress Code: All the employees were relaxed and wore casual clothes. Some of them even had dogs at their desk. Very casual and light environment.
- Work from Anywhere: During my career, I worked for more than 20 Fortune 500 clients and all of had a designated place for their employees to work. At Google, it was completely different, you can work from your desk, park, terrace, near the lake, restaurant or even parking lot. Isn’t that cool?
- Free Food: Everyone knows about free food policy at Google, but do you know that Google cafeteria serves more than 10 different cuisines. And I was surprised when I saw “Rajasthani” food counter. That means you can request whatever you want.
- Free Bicycle: Yes, Google let you take their Bicycles free of cost. You can use it for a daily commute and whatever else you want. That’s a great way to promote a healthy culture.
- Invite Your Guest: At Google, you can invite your friends, family or relatives for lunch and that too free of cost. In a stint of little more than5 months, I invited a lot of friends and it was an awesome experience for them.
- Brand Name: Finally, Google is the biggest tech company in the world. More than anything, their brand name takes your career to another level. If you are a Googler, you will be automatically considered SMART.
Trust me, I have not exaggerated any of the experiences mentioned above. Now, you tell me if it is a good place to work or not. Curious to see your response in the comments box.
Cheers!
