Summary
- Star Wars Jedi: Survivor outsold Star Wars Outlaws in Europe, even though it’s an older game.
- Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws faced criticism and sales issues, losing to a 2023 game.
- The critical consensus agrees that Jedi: Survivor is superior to Outlaws, reflecting in sales and reviews.
It’s no secret by now that Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars action game, Star Wars Outlaws, didn’t meet expectations critically and commercially. While Ubisoft has yet to reveal sales figures, it might be worse than we thought, as even an older Star Wars game managed to beat it in terms of units sold — at least in Europe.
The other Star Wars game we’re referring to is Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, released in 2023. It’s the follow-up game to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order that featured a new Force wielder in Cal Kestis.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Outsells Outlaws in Europe Even If It’s An Older Game
This tidbit of sales info comes from a report (via TheGamer) by former Games Industry chief Christopher Dring, who looks at the turmoil happening at Ubisoft. According to Dring, “Across Europe, the game (Star Wars Outlaws) was the 47th best-selling game of the year, and sold less than Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which was released the year before.”
While no exact sales figures were shared, losing to an “old” game released in 2023 is definitely not a good look. Sure, you can counter that Jedi: Survivor was sold for a lower price, given it is an older title, but even so, it shouldn’t outpace a new AAA game based on the Star Wars license.
This is yet another string of bad press for Ubisoft, which has seen a very challenging 2024, a year where rumors of the company being acquired by Tencent surfaced.

Star Wars Outlaws Or Starfield? Fans Debate Which Game Does Planet Landing Better
Some fans believe Starfield could learn a thing or two from Star Wars Outlaws, while others believe the comparison is unfair.
The start of 2025 hasn’t been good for Ubisoft, either, as the company had to respond to abuse allegations within the Assassin’s Creed Shadows development team, with that game’s release once again being delayed, this time to March.
As someone who’s played both Outlaws and Jedi: Survivor, I do not doubt that Respawn’s title is the better overall product. The critical score of both games also shares the same sentiment, as the DualShockers Star Wars Jedi: Survivor review states, “Survivor took everything good about Fallen Order and improved on it. From the depth of combat and complexity of characters to the incredible action set pieces and genuinely thoughtful narrative work, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the gold standard of how to approach a sequel.”
As for Star Wars Outlaws, it currently has a top critic average of 75 on Open Critic, with only 65% of professional reviewers recommending it.
If you’re looking forward to more Star Wars Jedi action, EA has confirmed that a third game is in development, and will wrap up the trilogy.
