TESRenewal, the modding group behind the Oblivion remake, Skyblivion, has released the latest roadmap to showcase the progress and what to expect this coming year. With only one region of the nine in Cyrodiil left to complete, the devs are inviting more volunteers to help expedite the final touches and achieve the promised 2025 roll out date.
The high-profile modding community has been revealing bits and pieces of the project, but the latest roadmap is the most progressive and closest to the release date. It provides a deeper look into Cyrodiil and showcases the much-needed improvements in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Skyblivion’s Latest Roadmap Shows Progress
In the narrated video, the developers reveal that only the Nibeney region remains unfinished. The other eight are entirely landscaped and about halfway navmesh. Most 3D objects, like trees, enemies, and armor, are finished, and only six quests await completion.
Cyrodiil adventurers who’ve spent hundreds of hours in the green landscape will certainly recognize the impressive scenery a few minutes into the preview. Besides the revamped cities of Anvil and Bruma, fighting Oblivion enemies using Skyrim animation and skeletons may evoke a strange pang of nostalgia.
Creators have also revamped all nine regions in Cyrodiil by leaning more towards Skyrim’s Roman-inspired theme rather than the monotonous, metallic aesthetic that lacks warmth and depth. Most importantly, they carried over all soundtracks from the original title and added 24 new ones across regions and quests.
“We’re finalizing the world map with only the Nibene region on Cyrodiil’s Eastern border left to complete,” the narrator says.
The latest reveal also detailed crucial elements that remain to be completed or require some more volunteer skills. The team believes that the landscape needs more unique vegetation, hence requesting 3D artists skilled in botany to offer a hand. Other areas that require volunteer help include UI vector implementation, interior design, navmeshing, and a quest designer.
Skyblivion 2025 Release
Skyblivion was TESRenewal’s way to bring Bethesda’s Oblivion into the modern age. To achieve this, they built the original title within the engine of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, another esteemed entry in the Elder Scrolls series.
TESRenewal has previously worked on impressive mods, but they were limited to DLC sizes. Skyblivion, however, is monumental in scale and ambition. It is expected to be an entire overhaul of Oblivion, with the Skyrim engine being the game-changer.
While the latest roadmap is certainly promising, the overall quality of the finished remake remains to be seen. The Skyblivion development team has promised a release in 2025, though they have not specified an exact launch date.
