Oppo K1: Premium design with Snapdragon 660!!! Budget Phone?

The year has just started and we have seen many new devices with the crazy chunk of features- better cameras, powerpack performance, thinner bezels, and no notches. But, among those new high-tech smartphones, there are some devices which are following the leads of last year’s high-end features.

 

Oppo has come with its new device, Oppo K1 which is another mid-range entry by the brand. At the price point of Rs. 16,990, the device offers an in-display fingerprint sensor, Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core SoC, full-HD+ display, and a waterdrop notch. Design and Display

Previously, the device has been launched in the Chinese market. The device enters the Indian market this year and that’s why the device follows last year’s trend, design and detailing. Oppo K1 is quite similar to the Oppo A7 and the Oppo F9 Pro in terms of its looks. The phone looks solid and robust even after the plastic body it has.

At the back, you get a dual-camera setup like Oppo’s F9 Pro and Oppo branding. The back panel has a gradient design with a 3D injection-moulded back which creates nice effects while playing with lights. The back is quite fingerprint and smudge catcher. On the left, you get space for packing two Nano-SIM cards and a microSD card (up to 256GB) while on the right, you get power button and volume rockers. At the bottom, there is a Micro-USB port, a 3.5mm headphone socket, and a speaker grille.

 

Coming to the display, Oppo K1 packs a 6.41-inch, full-HD+ display with waterdrop notch at the top. The screen also comes with the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection. The bezels are not too thick but not too thin either. Oppo doesn’t give notification LED this time due to the limited space on the top- so only the front camera is what you get. The display gives punchy and vibrant colors, but looking at the price tag, Oppo must have gone with the AMOLED display for more catchy display.

Performance

Under the hood, Oppo K1 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage which can be further expanded up to 256GB using microSD card. The device is really nice for daily general usage. The in-display fingerprint sensor is nicely placed and is pretty fast. There has always been a thing about these in-display fingerprint sensors- they are not as fast as the back panel ones. The finger needs to be placed and aligned perfectly, then the display catches the finger. On the other hand, the face unlocking is very fast and rapid which works equally fine in the low lighting too.

Coming to the Benchmark scores, a score of 1,28,852 points came out on the AnTuTu platform while 41fps came at the T-Rex graphics test in the GFXbench benchmark.

The phone was able to handle heavy games like Asphalt 9 and PUBG at the medium graphics settings. The gaming sessions were smooth with no lag or hiccups most of the times. The phone didn’t get too hot even after a long gaming session.

Camera and Battery Life

Oppo K1 has a dual rear camera setup including a 16-megapixel primary camera and a 2-megapixel secondary camera. For selfies, the phone offers a 25-megapixel front shooter. The cameras are a good performer like every Oppo device but in low lighting, it struggles. Moreover, the front camera can be the USP of this device- such nice crafting.

 

Coming to the battery life, Oppo K1 packs a 3,600high capacity mAh battery. The phone packs a decent battery which gave above 12 hours in HD video loop test. It means you can get a day of the battery life easily left and still some fuel left at the end of the day, The device doesn’t support VOOC fast charging but it comes with a 10W charger which can charge the phone fully in two and a half hours. Other Features

Oppo K1 runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box coupled with ColorOS 5.2. The connectivity and sensors include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, USB OTG, Micro-USB, Headphones, Active 4G on both SIM cards, Fingerprint sensor, Compass/ Magnetometer, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor. and Gyroscope. In the box, you get a silicone case, SIM eject tool, Micro-USB cable, a 10W power adapter, and a headset.

Verdict

Oppo K1 is not a bad device considering the price point and what it offers at it- especially an in-display fingerprint sensor. Oppo K1 has a good set of features with Snapdragon 660 the boosting energy behind all of their workings. Though the inclusion of USB Type-C port and fast charging could have made the device solid performer, still it is a nice package with a great camera for selfies, long battery life and for gaming sessions. The prices will drop in a month or two like we have seen in previous devices too, so you can wait and consider to buy it later.
