Mushrooms are a popular and nutritious food in many countries of the world.
Scientists have found that mushrooms are beneficial in lowering blood pressure, fighting against tumor cells, for diabetics, relieving constipation, increasing digestion, and fighting diseases such as arthritis.
However, there are thousands of species of mushrooms in nature and many of them can cause harm to the human body.
For example, there are more than 10,000 species of mushrooms in North America alone. When taken as food, 20 percent of them can make people sick, and one percent of them can kill people instantly.
Among the different varieties of mushrooms, 8-10 varieties are cultivated in Bangladesh.
But many varieties of mushrooms found in Bangladesh, especially wild mushrooms, can often prove to be toxic and harmful to the body.
Dhaka University Institute of Nutrition and Food Science Professor. Khaleda Islam says, “Mushrooms other than known varieties, especially wild mushrooms, should never be eaten. Because mushrooms are good for the body but not all mushrooms are good. Instead, many mushrooms can cause serious damage. “
“Wild mushrooms, especially frogs, have a type of fungus that can be harmful to the liver and kidneys,” he said.
