How to Find Topics to Write a Blog Post for Your Blog
Let’s go ahead with the real purpose of this article. There are plenty of resources you can get an idea from and I’m sharing some really good of them.
Use SEMrush – My Favorite
Here comes my ALL-TIME favorite tool for all the needs. SEMrush not only helps me find Blog post ideas, but it does a lot of other jobs as well for me.
Whether I’ve to do keyword research or a competitor’s analysis or to find out competitor’s paid advertisement strategies, it helps me in seconds.
Whether you have to find out the bad links pointing to your blog that could harm the ranking of your blog or want to know what all websites your competitors are getting backlinks from Or simply want to know the keyword difficulty, SEMrush can help you. See SEMrush complete Features
If you’re lazy or not finding yourself good enough to use the above methods to find good blog post ideas, you can opt for the SEMrush tool.
You can avail a 7-days free trial to find blog post ideas and later if you do not want to continue, you can cancel your trial.
In case you like the tool, you can continue with the subscription. Mind you, you can use SEMrush for many other IMPORTANT things such as keyword research, competitor analysis, link building opportunities, popular content, etc.
I’ve entered the keyword “Make Money Online” and I have a whole bunch of topics I can write about.
Under the “Questions” section, you can find a lot of useful topics that will interest the users. In front of these topics, SEMrush shows keyword volume which means how many times this particular keyword is searched in the last one month. This is the advantage of using SEMrush.
By using other methods I’ve mentioned above, you’ll not have an idea about keyword search volume and how difficult the keyword (topic) be to rank in Google.
There is no point in writing about something that doesn’t get searched at all Or something about which is highly competitive and very hard to get ranked in Google. If you have SEMrush, you can consider all these matrics.
This is my first choice whenever I have to research the latest topic to write an article about. Most people have no knowledge about a great marketing tool that big G offers for free, Google trends are one of them.
Just go to https://www.google.com/trends and you’ll see the trending topics on the page.
For example, in the below image, we can see Virat Kohli in T20 WC is a trending topic and the graph against the topic shows the frequency of how people have searched about him in the last 24 hours!
Clicking on the topic will help you dig deeper and give you data for the last week.
You can research different trending topics by changing the categories and the countries from the top-right drop-down menu.
Here in this example, the above topics are trending in the United State and you can change them as per the preference.
You can further twist this tool, for example, if you have something in mind and wanna check if it is trending, simply enter the keyword.
I tried it by entering the keyword “Donald Trump” while the country remains unchanged and here are direct results from Google Trend.
You can see from the below chart Donald Trump is trending and being searched massively in the past one year. You can play around with this tool to make a list of good topics.
Here is the regional interest in this keyword and related keywords.
Leverage the Power of Your Facebook Profile-
On this planet, you will hardly find anyone who doesn’t know what Facebook is. Everyone, be a kid, adult, work at home mom, or a granny, everyone has a fair idea about Facebook and how to use it.
But how marketers use Facebook to promote their product remains with them only.
Anyways, we can use this powerful social media site to find a blog post idea.
Although this is not something new I’m sure most of you have never gone into detail to know what you can get out of this.
There are topics that people on Facebook are talking about. Closely watch out for the news/articles they are sharing on their Facebook profile.
These are the topics that people are currently interested in. Go through those articles, read them, and create an even better post and reshare on your Facebook profile.
According to Statista, there are about 1.53 billion active Facebook users as of December 2015. Imagine what magic this highly populated social channel can do for you.
By clubbing the above two resources (Google trends and Facebook), you can create a list of some really good topics.
Just pick a FB trending topic that matches your niche and enter the same in Google trend, you will have a list of related topics to write an article about.
Make use of Twitter Hashtags –
You might be using Twitter for a long time but I’m sure you’re yet to explore different features of this stunning social channel which allows you to share limited 140 characters’ messages.
According to Statista, Twitter serves 305 million active users as of Q4 2015.
You can use Twitter to find some hot topics for your blog. Just login to your twitter account and notice the left-hand side trending topics.
How twitter recognizes them trending is pretty simple. It segregates the topics being most tweeted, re-tweeted, and favored.
With the help of these and hashtag (#) functionality. Twitter list down trending topics which a golden nugget if you know the art of using it.
You can further explore different options to find good topics, for example, change the location if you want to know what’s trending at a particular place, see the number of re-tweets, and favors to decide a topic.
Google Autocomplete Feature
This is one of the favorite methods to find interesting blog topic ideas. When you start entering a keyword, Google automatically starts to show you different topics that you probably are interested in. See the below example.
When I started to type “how to make money online” Google’s suggestion tool showed up many interesting topics.
It showed up to 10 best keywords that you could write about. These are the topics that people have searched for or interested in.
Writing about these topics can help you attract more visitors to your blog; which could result in social shares and eventually more visits to your blog.
Don’t forget Google’s Related Searches Feature
That’s yet another great way to find interesting blog post ideas for your blog. When you enter a keyword in Google and hit enter, you’ll see the top 10 websites in SERP.
When you scroll down to the bottom, you’ll notice that Google suggests related keywords to your queries.
It means, if anyone searches for a keyword, he might be interested in these topics as well.
I always take note of these related keywords whenever writing a blog. Apart from selecting any one of these keywords, you can use many of them in your article.
They are the variations of your main keyword and what including them in your blog post means. You can rank for these keywords as well.
Take advantage of Quora

You can analyze these questions and see which one of them gets the most engagement. If you see questions where more number of people following the topic and have more answers, Bingo! This is a topic you should consider for writing a blog post.
See the below example to understand better.
Here you can see, when I searched for “Make Money Online” there are hundreds of questions popped up.
I’ve highlighted how many people follow these topics. In this example, the first topic is being followed by 9300 people making it the most interesting topic.
Make use of Answerthepublic
I can not forget this helpful website whenever I’ve to look for blog post ideas. It is one of the best websites to find How to, Preposition, Comparison, and other related topics.
These are highly targeted topics and interest users.
For example, in the below screenshot, I entered a seed keyword “Make Money Online”

You will get to know what content is being shared the most using BuzzSumo; and writing something similar to these topics may help you grab people’s attention.
This is a paid tool but in this article. I will be using its free feature to see which topics people are liking. The most and sharing through social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Linkedin, etc.
you will be seeing the most shared articles on the page. Look at the total number of shares and make a list of articles; that have been shared more than 1k times at least.
The number of shares indicates how much people are liking that particular article; and writing on a similar topic may help with increasing traffic to your blog.
