While some people think we’ll be able to create an atmosphere on Mars, most scientists don’t think we can.
Since Mars doesn’t have a lot of gravity and has no organized magnetic field like Earth, over time solar winds blow away what thin atmosphere remains.
There’s also the problem of gravity. Mars doesn’t have much of it, so things don’t weigh much on Mars. That means, to get enough air for humans to breathe, the Martian atmosphere would have to be many miles thicker than here on Earth to achieve similar atmospheric pressure.
Then along comes that solar wind and it blows away again.
Mars is really not a very friendly planet.
