AI-Powered Windows Search Comes to Release Preview Testers With Copilot+ PCs

Microsoft has just released another Windows 11 preview build for Insiders on the Release Preview Channel, and it enables the new AI-powered Windows Search experience on Copilot+ PCs with Qualcomm chips. Unfortunately, users with AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs will have to wait.

Today’s Windows 11 preview build 26100.3624 follows the release of the 24H2 build 26100.3613 last week. That previous flight introduced Voice Access improvements on Qualcomm-powered Copilot+ PCs, the new Gamepad keyboard layout for the Windows 11 touch keyboard, and more.

The new AI-powered Windows Search experience on Qualcomm-powered Copilot+ PCs lets Insiders type what they want to find using natural language in File Explorer, the Windows Search bar in the taskbar, and the Settings app. The new semantic indexing models leverage the built-in NPUs on these PCs, so you won’t need an Internet connection to find what you want using natural language prompts.

In File Explorer, this AI-powered search experience can also find local photos and pictures stored on OneDrive for consumers just by describing what’s in them. “Exact matches for your keywords within the text of your cloud files will also show in the search results,” the Windows Insider team explained.

This improved Windows Search experience will roll out gradually to Insiders with Copilot+ PCs on the Release Preview Channel. The public rollout will start next month with the release of the April 2025 Patch Tuesday updates. Other Copilot+ features such as Recall and Click to do will likely require a bit more testing with Insiders, however.
