Did Edgar Allan Poe own a time machine? Some people think so. How else could he have known about an event almost half a century before it happened? In his book called The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, the author describes how four sailors who survived the sinking of their ship were forced to eat a rather unfortunate cabin boy named Richard Parker. Although Poe claimed that the story was based on real events, that wasn’t actually true. 46 years later however, a boat really did sink, and the members of the crew who were rescued were forced to eat a cabin boy in order to survive. The cabin boy’s name? You guessed it – Richard Parker. (source: nytimes, seesouthampton)

“In 1858, Robert Fallon was shot dead, an act of vengeance by those with whom he was playing poker.

Fallon, they claimed, had won the $600 pot through cheating. With Fallon’s seat empty and none of the other players willing to take the now-unlucky $600, they found a new player to take Fallon’s place and staked him with the dead man’s $600.

By the time the police had arrived to investigate the killing, the new player had turned the $600 into $2,200 in winnings.

The police demanded the original $600 to pass on to Fallon’s next of kin – only to discover that the new player turned out to be Fallon’s son, who had not seen his father in seven years!”

When compared, there are a lot of strange coincidences between John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln. When listed all together, it’s a little crazy to think about. They were elected to Congress 100 years apart. Lincoln was elected in 1846 and Kennedy was elected in 1946. They were also elected as President 100 years apart; Lincoln in 1860 and Kennedy in 1960. They were both assassinated by Southerners, both shot on a Friday, and both shot in the head. They were also killed by two people with three names and those names each had 15 letters. After being assassinated, their successors had the last name of Johnson. Andrew Johnson replaced Lincoln and Lyndon Johnson replaced Kennedy. That’s a lot of coincidences between the two of them.

This ship was also unsinkable, but in the book it struck an iceberg and sunk. In the book, this incident took place the very same month that the Titanic sunk.
